The Church of England in Tenterden
ST. MILDRED'S     +     ST. MICHAEL'S     +     ST. JOHN'S

Seeing Christ in the World .... Being Christ in the World

Welcome to the website of the Church of England in Tenterden!

We are three churches:
St. Mildred   -
St. Michael and All Angels   -   St. John the Baptist;
and we are at the heart of the communities of

  Tenterden  +  St. Michael’s  +  Smallhythe.

We exist to proclaim the glory of God in Jesus Christ and to show that God loves all people. We are friendly churches where people can worship God, make friends, feel refreshed and uplifted. There’s a place for you and we’d love you to join us.

With every good wish,

     Lindsay Hammond  (Vicar)

Tenterden Team Ministry Group Evensong

Watch this space for the next date and Venue!

Our group of nine churches comes together for Evensong at one of our 9 Churches about every 3 months.

The nine are: Appledore, Ebony, Newenden, Rolvenden, Smallhythe, St Michael’s, Stone, Tenterden, and Wittersham.

Evensong is one of the glories of Britain. As an English language service, Evensong dates back to the time of the Reformation, using elements of the old monastic Offices of Vespers and Compline. The liturgy (a fixed set of words and ceremonial features) that the Church uses to this day was laid out in Archbishop Cranmer’s Book of Common Prayer, the first version of which appeared in 1549. The music took shape a few decades later, in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.  Cranmer created the liturgy of Evensong with the general public in mind, motivated by the fact that it would condense more services than people could be expected to attend into one short service.

Current Needs!

Magazine Editors : We are looking for another person to join the magazine team to become an editor. We normally have 5 editors so each only has to produce 2 issues a year. We have a lively group consisting of the editors, roving reporters and representatives from the other 2 churches plus Lindsay as Chairman. We meet 10 times a year to plan the issue 2 months away, and to review what has been received for the issue 1 month away. We provide the software as well as training and help. Could this be you? If interested in finding out more please contact Neil de Villiers (01580 765 868) or talk to any of the magazine team.

Youth Work : We urgently need to find some willing people to help with the all-important work with our young people. So can you spare a little time to join the Friday night Emanate youth group rota or help swell the number of Sunday Club leaders? If you can, please get in touch with Shirley Docker (762492).

Coffee Rota : Or if you would like to join the Sunday morning coffee rota at St. Mildred’s, then please contact Jean Easto (01233 850960).

Aids Support : For many years we have supported a charity working with AIDS orphans in an African township. While our practical support is enormously appreciated, the orphans, their families, and the charity also need lots of prayer support, particularly concerning issues over which the charity has no control. A monthly prayer letter goes out to anyone who commits to regular prayer for this. Would you be willing to pray?  If so, please contact Lindsay.
